PMC has a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, an adult intensive care unit, nationally recognized orthopedic services, a full suite of cardiac care, Center of Excellence-recognized surgeons, imaging, and primary and specialty care.Explore Career Pathways for Laboratory Professionals:ResponsibilitiesThe Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) functions as a laboratory professional who assists other laboratory personnel in specimen collection, specimen receiving, specimen processing, laboratory testing, process improvement, and quality initiatives.Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory guidelines.Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.Follows proper protocols for specimen packaging and specimen transport.Responsible for patient registration, lab test ordering, specimen receipt, accessioning, processing and specimen distribution according to protocol.Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.Performs proper drug screen collection and processing, as assignedMonitors phlebotomy draw list and assigns/dispatches phlebotomists to draw specimens as assigned.Courier duties as assigned.Performs laboratory tests in compliance with policies and procedures as assigned.Assists in preparing laboratory equipment for testing.QualificationsJob Requirements:High School diploma or equivalent.BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.Preferred Job Requirements:Certification from a nationally recognized agency as a phlebotomist.Certification from a nationally recognized agency as a medical lab assistant within 2 years of hire date.Experience working in the clinical setting.
