Lead Environmental Engineer
Location: Augusta, GA area (worksite in Graniteville, SC)
Shift/Schedule: Full-time, onsite, Monday through Friday
Pay/Compensation: $110,000 – $130,000 per year

About the Role
A fast-paced, safety-first production facility is seeking a Lead Environmental Engineer to own environmental compliance for a large manufacturing site. This engineer manages air, water, and waste programs while guiding the plant toward stronger sustainability performance. The role offers site-level ownership, visibility with plant leadership, and the stability of a global manufacturer.

The ideal candidate has owned environmental compliance for a manufacturing site and is comfortable working directly with regulators. You understand air, water, and waste regulations in depth, write clear permit applications, and can influence plant leaders to invest in sustainability. You are organized, detail-focused, and able to manage many compliance deadlines at once without losing sight of the bigger picture. You enjoy training employees and building a strong environmental culture on the plant floor. Experience working with state environmental agencies and managing outside consultants will help you succeed quickly in this role.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead site environmental compliance for air, water, stormwater, and waste programs
• Prepare permit applications, renewals, and required regulatory reports
• Conduct environmental audits, inspections, and corrective action tracking
• Serve as primary contact with state and federal environmental agencies
• Train employees on environmental procedures and spill response
• Drive waste reduction, energy, and sustainability projects
• Review new equipment and projects for environmental impact

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in environmental, chemical, civil, or mechanical engineering
• Environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing setting
• Working knowledge of Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and RCRA
• Experience with Title V or similar air permits
• Strong regulatory writing and communication skills
• Ability to work onsite at the plant

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer license
• Experience leading an environmental team or program
• ISO 14001 environmental management system experience
• Automotive, rubber, or chemical manufacturing experience
• South Carolina DES regulatory experience
