Job Summary

The DME Program Manager supports Access Alaska, Inc.'s Independent Living mission of empowering individuals experiencing disabilities to live independently and interdependently within the community of their choice. This position provides leadership and administrative support to the daily operations of the Durable Medical Equipment (DME), Independent Living Advocacy, and Consumer Directed Personal Care Services (CDPCS) departments.

Responsibilities

Oversite and Supervision 

Ensuring the efficient operation of the Durable Medical Equipment Store, including inventory management, equipment sanitation and maintenance, staff supervision, and customer service. The position collaborates with consumers, community partners, healthcare providers, and internal staff to facilitate access to durable medical equipment and independent living support. Receives donated equipment, the completion of minor repairs, sanitizing/cleaning, maintain durable medical equipment; document work activities and maintain equipment inventory; required to safely use general repair hand tools and a specialized sanitizing and cleaning machine known as a Hub Scrub; work outside in various weather conditions; complete minor construction and repair work; and assure accurate purchasing, repair and inventory records.

PHI and C onfidentiality 

Must protect and maintain the confidentiality of customers' health information and follow standard operation procedures to ensure compliance with HIPAA is required.

Serves as a resource to consumers and staff, advocates for consumer choice and self-determination, and works to expand opportunities for community integration and independent living.

Reliability

Regular, reliable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. The incumbent must maintain sufficient availability to ensure effective staff oversight, support, and responsive service delivery to consumers and community partners.

Education Skills

High school or general education development (GED) diploma. 

Credentialing/Specialized training general mechanical/electrical/plumbing.

5 years of small equipment repair and maintenance.

3 years of management and supervision of employees

Ability to read diagrams. 

Ability to utilize basic hand tools, for example: wrenches, screwdrivers, battery drills, saws, etc. 

Age Requirement: Must be 21 years of age or older

 

Administrative Skills:

Must have working knowledge of MS Office tools, word processing and data enter skills 

 

Management/Supervision:

Oversite and supervision of Program Support Specialist working in DME, IL, and CDPCS Departments. 

Travel: Travel to Anchorage or Fairbanks.

 

Work Authorization:

All positions at Access Alaska, Inc. require successful completion of a State of Alaska and federal name- and fingerprint-based criminal background check prior to the commencement of employment. Employment is contingent upon receiving a valid Provisional Approval or Final Approval through the State of Alaska Background Check Unit.

 

Employees must maintain eligibility to work under the applicable approval status and comply with all renewal requirements mandated by state regulations. Background check approvals are generally valid for five (5) years, subject to state regulations and program requirements. Recertification must be initiated and completed at least forty-five (45) days prior to the expiration date of the current approval

 

New employees are responsible for the cost of the initial background check application. Unless other arrangements have been approved by the Accounting Department, the fee will be deducted from the employee's first paycheck.

Failure to maintain a current and valid background check approval may result in the employee being ineligible to perform job duties. If an employee's approval expires before renewal approval is issued, the employee will be suspended from work and may not return to duty until a valid approval has been received.

Other Duties as Assigned: 

The DME Program Manager may be assigned additional duties and responsibilities consistent with the scope and level of this position. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in responding to operational, programmatic, staffing, and organizational needs while supporting the mission and goals of Access Alaska, Inc. These duties may include temporary assignments, special projects, committee participation, training, community outreach, and coverage of essential functions as needed.
