Summary
The Industrial Electrical Apprentice assists Journeyman and Master Electricians in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment in industrial and commercial environments. This position provides hands-on training while developing the knowledge and skills required to become a qualified Industrial Electrician. The apprentice will perform assigned electrical tasks under direct supervision while adhering to all company, customer, and safety requirements. The Industrial Electrical Apprentice assists Journeyman and Master Electricians in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment in industrial and commercial environments. - High school diploma or GED required.
- Enrollment in, or willingness to participate in, a state-approved electrical apprenticeship program preferred.
- Previous industrial, construction, or electrical experience preferred but not required.
- Basic understanding of electrical theory, tools, and safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret basic electrical drawings and diagrams.
- Valid driver's license and ability to maintain an insurable driving record.
- Ability to pass all required pre-employment screenings and site-specific requirements.
- TWIC card and/or other site credentials may be required depending on project location.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and travel as project demands require.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems, components, and wiring methods.
- Knowledge of workplace safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and electrical safety practices.
- Ability to accurately use hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications.
- Ability to learn and apply National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

- Assist in the installation of electrical conduit, cable trays, raceways, and support systems.
- Pull, route, terminate, and label electrical wiring and cables under supervision.
- Assist with the installation, testing, and maintenance of motors, transformers, switchgear, control panels, and other electrical equipment.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and assist with electrical repairs as directed.
- Read and follow blueprints, electrical diagrams, and project specifications.
- Use appropriate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Assist with inspections, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
- Follow all company, customer, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Participate in daily safety meetings, job briefings, and training activities.
- Housekeep work areas and maintain tools and equipment in a clean and organized condition.
- Learn industry standards, codes, and best practices through on-the-job training and classroom instruction.
- Work under the direction of licensed electricians and supervisors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, reach, climb, balance, push, and pull while performing pipefitting activities.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the scheduled shift.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and handle heavier piping materials, tools, or equipment using appropriate assistance or material-handling equipment.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work from scaffolds, elevated work platforms, pipe racks, and other industrial work areas as required.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements associated with measuring, layout, fitting, bolting, tool use, and material handling.
- Ability to work on uneven, muddy, rocky, or otherwise variable walking and working surfaces.
- Ability to work outdoors in heat, humidity, cold, rain, wind, and other weather conditions.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, steel-toed footwear, FR clothing, fall protection, and other project-specific PPE.
- Work is primarily performed at active industrial construction, maintenance, turnaround, and customer facilities.
- Work may be performed in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, LNG, power generation, manufacturing, and other heavy industrial environments.
- Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, vibration, dust, dirt, fumes, moving equipment, piping systems, and other conditions typical of industrial construction and maintenance.
- Work may be performed around operating process units, piping systems, elevated work areas, excavations, structures, mobile equipment, and ongoing construction or maintenance activities.
- Work may require the use of ladders, scaffolds, elevated work platforms, and fall-protection systems.
