About Us The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. Description of Work This is a position at Marion Correctional Institution located in Marion, North Carolina (McDowell County). Marion Correctional Institution is a Close-custody prison housing male offenders. The facility is designed to house a maximum capacity of 793 offenders. Position provides relevant human resources customer service to employees and general public to provide information in response to HR questions. Process, verify and maintain standard HR documents such as pre-employment materials, change of status forms; prepares and maintains relevant HR documentation, forms and records; gathers information for review and analysis by others related to HR transactions. Key Duties Leave Administration: Manage the end-to-end collection, processing, and submission of FMLA and ADA documentation. Benefits & Retirement: Coordinate annual open enrollment and facilitate employee retirement processing and offboarding. Records Management: Maintain compliant, accurate, and up-to-date physical and digital personnel files. HR Reporting: Generate and audit weekly and monthly metrics to ensure data accuracy and timely delivery. Payroll Support: Investigate and resolve employee inquiries regarding compensation, deductions, and payroll discrepancies. Talent Acquisition: Coordinate and execute quarterly job fairs and community hiring events to support recruiting efforts. LOA & Reinstatement Package Processing: Initiate and package diverse LOA requests (FMLA, Extended Illness, Paid Parental Leave [PPL], Family Illness Leave [FIL], and Military Leave) by securing federal compliance documents (e.g., WH380-E, WH380-F). Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Grade Range: $33,902.00 - $59,327.00 Applicants now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Demonstrated or documented prior experience in recruitment, employment processing, and/or hiring experience. Minimum Education and Experience Associate’s degree, typically in Human Resources from an appropriately accredited institution or relevant field and no years of experience required; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and 2 years of progressive experience in Human Resources. About The Division of Institutions The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
