ASCP Medical Lab Technician

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, where your skills as a Medical Laboratory Technician will make a vital impact. This role involves performing clinical testing across various disciplines including hematology, immunology, microbiology, clinical microscopy, chemistry, coagulation, and blood banking, all while adhering to strict regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accurately perform and verify routine and specialized laboratory tests with minimal supervision.
  • Manage reagent preparation and analyzer troubleshooting efficiently.
  • Conduct quality control procedures consistently, documenting any failures and corrective actions.
  • Prioritize workload to meet testing requests promptly and maintain department productivity.
  • Communicate critical results to healthcare providers promptly and document accordingly.
  • Assist in training new staff and contribute to updating procedural manuals and policies.
  • Perform ongoing assessments of specimens and troubleshoot issues for both in-house and reference testing.

Education: An associate degree in Medical Technology or a related scientific field is required.

Experience: No prior experience is necessary for registered Medical Laboratory Technicians.

Certification: Certification or board eligibility as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technician through recognized agencies such as ASCP, ISCLT, HHS, AMT, or NCA is required upon hire.

Mental and Physical Requirements: This position demands close mental and visual attention for extended periods, often under time-sensitive and stressful conditions. Approximately 90% of the time involves moving throughout the department and working at lab stations. Ability to lift or carry up to 20 pounds is necessary.

Working Conditions: The role involves regular exposure to hazardous chemicals and infectious materials in an air-conditioned environment with moderate noise levels. Flexibility to work various shifts is expected.
