Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery

Job Summary:



The Labor and Delivery Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to women during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum stages, ensuring the safety and well-being of both mother and newborn. This role involves responding to emergency situations, supervising ancillary staff, and educating patients and families throughout the perinatal period.




Responsibilities:




  • Assess physical and psychosocial needs of patients, considering age, cultural background, and specific circumstances such as fetal demise.



  • Develop and implement multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plans in collaboration with healthcare team members.



  • Manage perinatal emergencies effectively, including crash C-sections, precipitous deliveries, and shoulder dystocia.



  • Monitor fetal and maternal well-being, assess amniotic fluid status, vaginal bleeding, and identify abnormalities.



  • Administer and monitor pain control methods, including assisting with epidural placement and post-medication observation.



  • Educate patients and families on all stages of perinatal and postpartum care, tailoring communication to individual needs.




    Qualifications:



  • Current RN license in the practicing state.



  • Minimum of two years recent experience in labor and delivery nursing.



  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Advanced Fetal Monitoring certifications.



  • Demonstrated clinical judgment in managing obstetric emergencies and fetal/maternal assessments.



  • Proficiency with electronic medical record systems, specifically EPIC.



  • AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification preferred.
