The Opportunity

Washington Pediatrics is one of Eastern North Carolina’s most established and respected independent pediatric practices — founded in 1955 and still physician-owned and led. Under the leadership of Dr. Deborah Ainsworth, the practice has grown to a team of 2 MDs, 2 PAs, 2 NPs (one part-time), and an embedded behavioral health psychologist, caring for more than 7,200 active patients across a six-county service area.

We are recruiting a full-time Staff Pediatrician to join this team. This is a practice where providers stay — current team tenure ranges from 7 to 35 years. The right candidate is someone who wants to practice in a place that knows their name, serve a community that genuinely needs them, and build a career without the constraints of corporate medicine.

Practice Highlights

• Independent, physician-owned private practice — no health system oversight
• 7,230+ active patients | ~20 patients per provider per day
• ~1,000 patient visits per month; office-based only — no hospital rounding

• Integrated behavioral health on-site (staff psychologist and 1 BH therapist)
• Point-of-care lab and vaccine administration
• Spanish language support with on-site interpreter

Patient Population

Birth through adolescence. Predominantly Medicaid (75.2%) with a significant Hispanic patient population. This is meaningful, mission-driven pediatric medicine — the practice serves families across a largely rural, underserved six-county region of Eastern NC.

Schedule & Call

Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM | Saturday morning in-office (rotating)

Call is shared equally among all providers:

• Weeknight phone call: approximately 1 evening per week
• Weekend call (Saturday PM + Sunday): approximately 1 in 6 weeks
• Saturday morning clinic: rotating schedule, approximately 1 in 5–6 (~18 Saturdays/year included in base salary)

Compensation & Benefits

• Year 1 base salary: $200,000
• Year 2 base salary: $210,000
• 20 days PTO Year 1; 25 days Year 2+, plus CME leave
• CME allowance: $2,500/year

Qualifications

• MD or DO — Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics
• Active or eligible NC medical license

Washington is a small river city on the Pamlico River — one of the first towns in the United States to bear the name.
