Registered Nurse - Outpatient Cardiology

This Registered Nurse - Outpatient Cardiology position is located in the Nursing, Specialty Service at the Augusta, ME location. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Patient Assessment - Conduct pre-visit assessments including vital signs, weight, cardiac history review, and symptom evaluation (chest pain, dyspnea, palpitations, edema) prior to provider examination.
• Diagnostic Test Coordination - Prepare patients for and assist with cardiac diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, stress tests, Holter monitor placement/removal, and echocardiograms, ensuring accurate documentation of results.
• Medication Management - Educate patients on cardiac medications (anticoagulants, beta-blockers, antihypertensives, statins), monitor for side effects, and reconcile medication lists at each visit.
• Patient Education - Provide teaching on cardiovascular risk factor modification, including diet, exercise, smoking cessation, weight management, and disease-specific self-care (heart failure, atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease).
• Care Coordination - Communicate with cardiologists, primary care providers, and specialists to coordinate treatment plans, referrals, and follow-up care; assist with prior authorizations for procedures and medications.
• Telephone Triage - Field patient phone calls regarding symptoms, medication questions, or concerns, applying clinical judgment to determine urgency and appropriate follow-up (same-day visit, ED referral, or routine scheduling).
• Documentation - Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) in accordance with clinic policies and regulatory standards.
• Chronic Disease Monitoring - Monitor patients with chronic cardiac conditions (heart failure, hypertension, arrhythmias) through regular follow-up, remote monitoring device data review, and INR/lab result tracking for anticoagulation management.
• Emergency Response - Recognize and respond appropriately to acute cardiac events or decompensation within the clinic setting, including initiating emergency protocols and CPR/AED use as needed.
• Infection Control & Safety - Adhere to infection control protocols, maintain a safe clinical environment, and ensure proper handling/disposal of medical equipment and supplies.

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm
