Job Title ER Med Surg Tech Flex Nights Job ID 2026-0462 Location VMC Main Campus, Renton, WA Department Emergency Department Shift Nights Employment Type Full Time (0.9 FTE) Salary Range Minimum $28.06 – Maximum $44.86 per hour, DOE Job Description Medical Surgical Technician responsible for providing direct nursing care assistance to patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse, within the Emergency Services or Critical Care units. Prerequisites Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program; actively pursuing a nursing degree. BLS certification. Effective communication in English. For non‑waived testing: evidence of High School Diploma/GED, College Transcript, or Washington State Department of Health issued license. Unit‑specific prerequisites (see Addendum). General Qualifications Good interpersonal communication skills with a diverse population. Ability to learn tasks, handle responsibility, and follow directions. Skillful communication and customer relationship management. Ability to work effectively with all age groups. Obtain HCA certification within 60 days of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Performance Responsibilities Assist in direct nursing care of all patients within scope of practice, following RN direction. Transport or escort patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed, using all required equipment (IV pumps, oxygen tanks, IV tote safety devices). Clean and stock treatment areas, patient rooms, instruments, equipment, and supplies. Restock linen, blankets, blanket warmers, and maintain linen carts. Clean medicine room refrigerator monthly and other storage areas each shift. Check and replace expired supplies, blood pressure cuffs, flashlights, suction heads, restraints, and unit carts. Complete check lists and inventory supplies/equipment each shift. Assist with admitting duties and documentation as needed. Coordinate daily activities with charge nurse or zone lead. Unit‑Specific Requirements Emergency Services Completion of an accredited MA, Emergency Department Technician program, or CNA with active Washington State Nursing Assistant – Certified license; actively pursuing a nursing degree; or EMT/Paramedic with field experience. EMT or Paramedic must have an active Washington State Registered Nursing Assistant license (RNA) prior to employment. One year of experience in a CNA or EMT field recommended. Critical Care Unit Previous critical care experience required; one year of critical care experience preferred. Job Qualifications (Repeated) Completion of an accredited MA and actively pursuing a nursing degree. BLS certification. Effective communication in English.
