Foster Hall Pay Grade: Other Academic : Overview The Collection Manager ensures the long-term stability, maintenance, and growth of the mammal collection while facilitating its use for research and education. The Collection Manager is responsible for all aspects of collection organization, specimen preparation, specimen data maintenance, documentation of collection use, loan processing, pest control, and maintenance of accession records. The position includes supervisory responsibilities, overseeing part-time student assistants, and reports to the Curator. Some travel and work outside business hours are required. Knowledge of mammal taxonomy and specimen preparation are essential. Reports to the Curator of Mammals. Job Responsibilities 80% Collection organization, integrity, and use: Ensures the organization and preservation of physical specimens (dry, wet, and frozen) by monitoring climate control, physical storage, and pest management. Runs the dermestid beetle colony. Manages specimen databases and record keeping, including field notes, permits, collections use, and other records. Manages collections use by processing loans and assisting visitors. Assists curators in preparing proposals for collection-improvement grants. 10% Collections growth: Contributes to collection growth through fieldwork. 10% Supervise collection workers: Supervise and train graduate and undergraduate collection assistants. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biology, Museum Studies, or related field with 2 years related experience working in natural history collections Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Biology, Museum Studies, or related field with 4 years of experience working in natural history collections. Special or Physical Qualifications Required to be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach above and below the shoulder, vision (near sight), vision (far sight), kneel or sit on the floor, push/pulling, grasping, climbing, sitting, and/or bending Additional : Special Instructions: Must provide CV, cover letter and contact information for three professional references.
