The Iupiaq way of life is woven into our curriculum, programs, activities, and daily interactions within Ilisagvik College and our community partners./ppSummary Of Position:/ppThe Maintenance Specialist II/III performs a full spectrum of routine and skilled maintenance services, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, grounds, and general trades across campus. This role includes interpreting technical documentation, operating heavy equipment, responding to emergencies (including on-call duties), and maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient campus environment./ppEssential Duties And Responsibilities:/pulliConduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and grounds to identify repair needs, preventive maintenance opportunities, and potential safety improvements./liliExecute maintenance and repairs in diverse trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, painting, roofing, signage, and general construction, utilizing appropriate tools and schematics./liliOperate heavy and light heavy equipment (e.g., loaders, forklifts, backhoes, skid steers) as required./liliInterpret and act upon blueprints, schematics, technical diagrams, and work orders./liliQuickly assess and address emergency alarms, system failures, and urgent repair needs; remain available for on-call response./liliSupport campus operations by helping with setups, teardowns, furniture moves, event staging, snow/ice removal, and grounds tasks./liliMaintain accurate records, including logs of work performed, materials used, and completed work orders; prepare reports as needed./liliAdhere to all relevant college policies, and federal, state, and local laws, including safety standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA)./liliPerform other related duties as assigned./li/ulpKnowledge/Skills/Abilities:/pulliDemonstrated multi-trade maintenance expertise in community or remote/Arctic environments./liliSolid grasp of building codes, construction safety practices, and emergency protocols./liliExperience operating heavy machinery and equipment safely./liliStrong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities./liliPrevious experience training or mentoring others in general construction and safe practices./liliAbility to travel periodically as required./liliClean driving record: valid drivers license required./liliCapability to pass background checks and work effectively in a multicultural setting./liliDemonstrated knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following: post-secondary education systems, North Slope Borough institutions and organizations, and Iupiat culture, language, and values./liliAbility to support I?isa?vik Colleges mission./li/ulpEducation/Certificates/Experience [Required]:/pulliHigh school diploma or equivalent./liliAt least 3 years of experience in building maintenance, construction, and skilled trades./li/ulpEducation/Certificates/Training [Preferred]:/pulliAssociates degree or vocational training in a related field (e.g., building construction, trades, HVAC)Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within 180 days./liliCertifications such as Construction Trades Endorsement, HazMat, EPA Universal (for refrigerants), or forklift/heavy equipment operation./li/ulpPhysical Requirements:/ppThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
