Instructor/Assistant Professor of Plumbing Technology

Instructor/Assistant Professor of Plumbing Technology Montana State University-Northern (MSUN) invites applications for an academic‑year (10‑month) Instructor/Assistant Professor of Plumbing Technology to begin immediately. The primary mission of this position is effective teaching in a university setting. Position Overview Faculty will teach Plumbing Technology courses and supervise student plumbing trainees in a two‑year Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree program. Teaching responsibilities include approximately 24 semester credit hours per year in areas such as basic plumbing theory, hand tool usage, plumbing distribution, boiler heating, and wiring processes. The role may incorporate distance delivery mediums and requires creation, updating, and maintenance of laboratory facilities. Candidates will also support apprenticeship experiences, curriculum development, program assessment, advisory board participation, student recruitment, and campus committee service. Duties and Responsibilities Teach plumbing technology courses and supervise student plumbing trainees in a two‑year A.A.S. program. Deliver approximately 24 semester credit hours per year across specified plumbing subject areas. Use distance delivery mediums as needed. Create, update, and maintain laboratory facilities. Develop course material, laboratory experiences, and facilities and establish corporate and labor linkages. Participate in curriculum development, program growth, and assessment. Assist in student recruitment and serve on campus committees. Act as an ambassador and collegiate member of the College of Technical Sciences. Required Qualifications A Journeyman Plumber with a minimum of 4 years of full‑time plumbing experience. Experience training apprentices. Proven experience with modern plumbing tools, practices, and regulations. Demonstrated willingness and ability to work as a member of a team. Recent industry work experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and attributes. Preferred Qualifications Master plumber license with experience in apprenticeship training. Bachelor’s degree in a related field (willingness to pursue a master’s degree). Experience and willingness to embrace new technologies. Special Requirements Teaching demonstration will be required as part of the interview process. Physical Demands Ability to work in an office, classroom, or lab environment with or without reasonable accommodations. Benefits Employer‑paid health plan with immediate coverage. Montana University System tuition waivers for professional staff and dependents. Tuition waiver for employee dependents after 4 months (50% of residential tuition).
