Matrix Providers is hiring a Psychotherapist to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families in at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethersda, MD.
- Employment Status: Full-Time
- Compensation: This is an hourly position, paid bi-weekly
- $75-90/ hour
- Hours of Performance: WRNMMC provides services 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. The Contractor shall be required to work their designated schedule. The schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Scheduling is always based on the needs of WRNMMC and must be coordinated through the government scheduling officer.

The Psychotherapist must have and meet the following qualifications:
- Degree: ?Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD).
- Education:? Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited college or university, with supervised applied psychotherapeutic training.
- Internship: ?Successful completion of an APA-accredited psychology internship.
- Licensure: ?Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a psychologist in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
- Certification: ?Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, plus any additional certifications required to meet credentialing standards.
- Experience: ?Experience sufficient to meet clinical competency requirements under applicable service-specific credentialing instructions, including demonstrated experience as a psychotherapist.
- Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of or experience with:
Military health systems
Combat and deployment-related issues
Patients with medically unexplained symptoms
Post-traumatic stress disorder
Disaster-related mental health care
Position Summary:
- The Psychologist (Psychotherapist) provides direct mental health services, psychological assessment, psychotherapy, consultation, and interdisciplinary support for patients receiving care at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE). This role includes clinical care, participation in research and program evaluation, and development of educational activities related to moral injury and mental health. The incumbent reports to the Chief of Research, National Intrepid Center of Excellence, and may be eligible for situational telework with supervisor approval. This position is 75% Clinical Care and 25% Research and educational activities.
Job Duties and Requirements
Ability to function effectively as part of an interdisciplinary health care team.
Ability to walk or stand for extended periods and manage a demanding caseload, including timely documentation and referrals.
Must meet all required security screenings and background checks to work at WRNMMC and NICoE.
Must continuously comply with all organizational security requirements and appropriately handle sensitive and privileged information in strict accordance with hospital policy.
Must be aware of the unique considerations involved in caring for special patient populations, including:
Wounded Warriors
Members of Congress
The President and Presidential appointees
U.S. Government executives with special security needs and clearances
Veterans and U.S. Service Members
Provide clinical services within the psychology specialty, including:
Individual psychotherapy
Group psychotherapy
Clinical interventions
Rapid focused assessments of newly diagnosed medical and clinical patients
Clinical services will include both face-to-face clinical care at the NICoE, as well as virtual telehealth care across the Defense Intrepid Network for TBI and Brain Health.
Function independently in completing evaluations, making complex diagnostic decisions, and providing recommendations to the interdisciplinary medical team regarding continuity of care and treatment compliance.
Participate in training on evidence-based interventions for moral injury, including:

Impact of Killing
Trauma-Informed Guilt Reduction
Conduct psychological evaluations using clinical interviews, psychological testing, and collateral information, as appropriate.
Provide consultation to health care providers across a wide range of specialties.
Independently prepare reports based on diverse and complex clinical data.
Provide evidence-based psychological interventions to a broad range of referred patients.
Apply specialized knowledge of psychological interventions to address the psychosocial needs of patients receiving care at NICoE.
Establish psychiatric diagnoses in accordance with the current American Psychiatric Association Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
Provide psychological treatment for individuals and groups, including support for medical and surgical patients coping with illness or injury.
Plan and deliver presentations, lectures, and educational sessions for clinical and research staff, as needed.
Participate in assigned quality improvement and utilization management initiatives.
Participate in clinical research and program evaluation related to moral injury and mental health conditions.
Comply with regulatory requirements, MTF policies, Joint Commission standards, peer review, utilization management requirements, and applicable system applications.
Provide professional consultation to specialty medical departments within the MTF regarding identification, diagnosis, and management of complex psychosocial cases involving medical complications and multiple specialty care needs.
The incumbent reports to the Chief of Research, National Intrepid Center of Excellence.
This position is eligible for situational telework upon supervisor approval.
