Afternoon Support Daycare Teacher

We're seeking a dependable and structured Afternoon Support & Closing Teacher to join our childcare team in Portsmouth, VA. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children and prefers a later start time. Our center operates on a structured academic morning model, and our afternoon team ensures a smooth and professional closing each day. What You'll Do Responsibilities: Provide classroom support during peak hours and cover teacher breaks to ensure smooth transitions Supervise children in a safe and controlled environment, combining classrooms as needed while maintaining licensing ratios per Virginia standards Engage students in aftercare activities, homework time, and structured play, promoting learning and development Maintain a clean and organized environment to ensure a healthy and stimulating atmosphere Follow closing checklist procedures to guarantee a safe and efficient dismissal process Ensure a safe and respectful environment for all children, families, and staff members Support a team-oriented approach to childcare, promoting collaboration and mutual respect Requirements Preferred Qualifications and Experience High school diploma or equivalent Must have 1 year of previous experience working with preschool children in a group setting Background check is required Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for this role Nice To Have We value a candidate with a strong sense of responsibility and punctuality Excellent classroom management skills are essential for a successful candidate A calm and composed demeanor under pressure is a must Teamwork and collaboration are highly valued in our childcare environment A professional and respectful approach with families is crucial Meeting Virginia childcare requirements is a prerequisite Minimum Education : High School or Equivalent #J-18808-Ljbffr
