Dental Hygienist – FPC-Alderson Work Location: Bureau of Prisons, Federal Prison Center – Alderson, Health Services Department, 1 Glen Ray Road, Alderson, West Virginia, 24910. Working Hours The Dental Hygienist will normally work Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM, with a 30‑minute unpaid lunch period. The schedule shall not exceed 40 hours per week. Qualifications Completed a course of study in Dental Hygiene from an accredited organization. Certified/licensed as a Dental Hygienist in the State of West Virginia. Dental radiology certification required. Anesthesia certification preferred but not required. Minimum 1 year of experience preferred. CPR certified (American Red Cross or American Heart Association). Correctional environment experience preferred but not required. Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting desirable but not required. Attire must be appropriate for the correctional environment. Do not wear khaki or green clothing (reserved for AIC). Duties And Responsibilities Provide dental prophylaxis and topical fluoride to AIC referred by dental staff. Provide individualized oral hygiene education and instructions to each patient. Monitor oral hygiene and periodontal condition during prophylaxis. Complete necessary dental x‑rays as specified by the dentist. Maintain accountability of sharps and syringes. Assist with sick calls and dentist as needed. Sterilize instruments used for prophylaxis and other instruments as specified. Perform necessary paperwork for scheduling patients for prophylaxis. Monitor, stock, and organize dental clinic supplies; assist with ordering supplies for the chief dentist; other duties assigned by the dentist. Use electronic medical records and proper documentation for patient information and appointment scheduling. Compensation And Benefits Competitive compensation package.
