Environmental Services Technician Level I

Environmental Services Technician level I is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, clean, healing environment. Responsible for ensuring daily room cleaning and timely room turnaround times related to patient throughput within the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The Environmental Services Technician, in accordance with organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, and customer experience.

Responsibilities include:

• Responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, using appropriate engagement techniques.
• Cleaning and disinfecting patient rooms and ancillary areas, including bathrooms, public areas, corridors, medication storage rooms, and any other areas that may require attention using designated and appropriate chemicals and cleaning procedures.
• Having good working knowledge and being capable of accessing and using all department related technology systems, such as the Bed Management systems.
• Replenishing supplies as needed, removing bio-medical waste, trash, and soiled linen as required daily and changing cubicle/window curtains as needed.
• Completing patient room and bathroom cleaning daily to accommodate discharges/admissions and overall cleanliness standards utilizing the approved procedures for patient room cleaning to include Bed Management systems where applicable.
• Performing duties while demonstrating working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor-saving products for all items within the healthcare environment for which tasked with servicing.
• Adhering to all organization safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety.
• Operating UV disinfection machine as needed.
• Actively participating in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve Customer Experience and cleanliness metrics.
• Following all infection prevention practices including proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Recognizing and adhering to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
• Reporting unsafe situations and turning in Engineering Service Requests for repair.
• Ability to communicate, read, and write in standard English as this is the main business language.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates effective use of computers and/or mobile devices for daily job performance activities.
• Identify and utilize appropriate resources to ensure identified problems or concerns are followed through and resolved.
• Demonstrates knowledge of facility safety requirements.
• Demonstrates the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.
• Demonstrates the ability set up/dismantle beds for cleaning according to department cleaning procedures.
• Complete other tasks as assigned by EVS leadership.
• Ability to communicate openly and candidly, creating an environment where co-workers and team members reciprocate in kind. Respectfully listen to viewpoints and ideas of others.

Qualifications: None. (Effective after 10/08/23) No experience or less than 3 years exp. in Health care support services and/or environmental services, hospitality, or related field None.
