Description:
The Surgical Technician assists other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care during the intra-operative period.
The major focus for this position is on preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment, as well as assisting the surgeon during surgical procedures.
This individual administers care and use of equipment applications based on the age and needs of the patient population served, from neonate to geriatric.
The Surgical Technician must be knowledgeable about specific procedures or specialties, effectively prioritize tasks, and plan and problem-solve due to the changing nature of the work situation during surgical procedures.
This individual must have the ability to recognize the need for an immediate response during urgent or emergency situations.
The Surgical Technician must also have basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system, and aseptic technique, applying this knowledge in all patient and family interactions.
Responsibilities include displaying aseptic technique in performance of surgical duties to ensure positive patient outcomes.
Demonstrating responsibility for the care, preparation, handling, and maintenance of surgical instrumentation is essential.
Consistently performing sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure is required.
Demonstrating knowledge and adherence to professional standards of practice is necessary for this role.
