Senior Manager, Test Engineering

Location: United States - Remote Department: Engineering Delivery – Quality & Automation Reports to: VP, Quality & Automation Role Summary We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager, Test to lead our shift‑left quality transformation across Storable’s engineering organization. This role is responsible for building and operating enterprise‑scale testing platforms and enablement programs that move quality earlier in the SDLC, increase automation, and improve reliability for our multi‑tenant SaaS products. Responsibilities Lead an engineering team focused on test platforming, shift‑left enablement, and change management. Define and own the shift‑left testing strategy across engineering, in partnership with product, platform, SRE, and security. Build and lead a high‑performing test platform/enablement team (engineering managers, senior ICs, SDETs). Translate business and reliability goals into a clear roadmap for quality platforms, tooling, and practices. Establish and track quality and reliability KPIs (defect escape rate, flaky test rate, MTTR, change fail rate, performance SLOs). Design and evolve enterprise‑scale testing platforms supporting API, contract, UI/E2E, performance, load, and resilience testing. Partner with SRE/DevOps to integrate testing deeply into CI/CD pipelines (gating, quality thresholds, test orchestration, parallelization, environment and test‑data management). Provide opinionated, self‑service tooling and templates for teams using Python, Java, and Go. Work closely with SRE and product engineering to design for reliability and resilience. Establish practices and tooling for performance and capacity testing, fault injection, chaos experiments, regression detection tied to SLOs. Ensure test platforms integrate with observability (logs, metrics, traces). Lead change management for new testing practices, frameworks, and workflows across many teams. Build and run enablement programs: standards, playbooks, training, office hours, guilds/communities of practice. Coach engineering managers and tech leads on testability, design for quality, and pragmatic automation strategies. Identify and remove systemic blockers to shift‑left. Hire, grow, and mentor engineering managers and senior ICs. Build a culture of continuous improvement, data‑driven decisions, and blameless post‑mortems. Own operational health of test platforms (availability, performance, cost) and partner with platform/SRE teams on capacity and reliability. Qualifications Required 10+ years in software engineering or quality engineering, including 4+ years leading engineering teams (people management). Proven experience leading test/platform, SDET, SRE, or DevOps teams in a multi‑service SaaS environment. Demonstrated success driving shift‑left testing transformations or similar practice changes at scale. Strong technical background in at least one of Python, Java, or Go, with working knowledge of the others. Hands‑on experience with test automation frameworks (API/service, contract, UI/E2E), performance and load testing tools, CI/CD systems. Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and multi‑tenant architectures. Experience partnering with SRE/DevOps on deployment, observability, and incident response. Track record of leading through change in maturing engineering practices. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across engineering, product, and business leaders. Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis. Preferred Prior experience in high‑growth SaaS companies (500–1,500 employees). Experience designing or operating centralized test platforms serving dozens of product teams. Familiarity with observability and reliability tooling (Datadog, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Chaos tooling). Experience working with global, distributed teams across multiple product lines. Background in reliability/resilience engineering (SLOs, error budgets, game days) applied to test strategy. Work Environment Remote‑first in the US; candidates in Canada may be considered where Storable has the ability to employ. Occasional travel for onsite planning and team workshops. Compensation Potential Pay Range: $175,000 USD - $220,000 USD Full‑time role; all applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
