Job Summary

 

The Field Project Manager- (FPM) Construction, Critical Power, is responsible for the overall management and execution of projects and is the principal point of contact for the customer. The FPM is charged with supporting the sales, operations, and service teams during the entire project to ensure a seamless transition from quotation through commissioning and acceptance by the customer. The FPM will have the discipline to create clear and achievable cost, quality, and schedule objectives and follow these objectives through to successful completion.

The FPM will provide technical leadership to the sales and service teams, including sub-contractors. The FPM must be capable of consistently exercising discretion and independent judgement, and possess advanced knowledge of critical power UPS, telecommunications, switchgear batteries, and power electronics (including UPS, Charger, rectifiers) and the associated component selection, system design and installation, construction, permitting, and reading blueprints. This position reports to the Regional Service Manager and has no direct reports.

Key Job Responsibilities:  

• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Maintain ongoing expertise with building codes, OSHA safety standards, environmental regulations, project management, estimating techniques, NFPA fire and electrical codes.
• Follow all safety requirements, proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and complete trainings according to company policies and/or customer requirements.
• Plans, establishes, maintains, and regularly updates project schedule on assigned construction projects, clearly communicating delays to operations team and customer.
• Supports sales, operations, and service teams.
• Maintain project budget within key performance measurements.
• Manages communication and distributes documentation between the company and its customers.
• Oversee sub-contractor performance and ensure compliance with contracts and specifications.
• Perform site walks for sales quoting and pre/post job qualifications.
• Review customer specifications and bid documents and provide change orders when necessary.
• Contingency planning expertise, decision making, and knowledge must be utilized during project implementation.
• Provide Customer Service Representatives with order detail information for order entry and completion.
• Create, prioritize, and maintain project action item list.
• Manage, provide direction to employees and sub-contractors as necessary.
• Maintain accurate as-built documentation and punch-lists.
• Monitors, reports, and controls costs on assigned projects within estimated project margin.
• Manage gross profit and other key performance metrics on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
• Provide market feedback to the Critical Power management team to position the company as an industry leader.
• Effectively manage business expenses to stay within company guidelines.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Key Performance Measurements:  

• Zero recordable incidents; 100% completion of safety training and audits.
• > 90% of scheduled tasks or milestones are completed on or before schedule.
• Budget adherence. Maintain cost variance within + 5%.
• Other key performance indicators as assigned.

Requirements:

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Must maintain a valid Driver’s license 
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment testing, required by customer sites and the Company, where applicable by law.
• Project Management Professional certification (PMP) required.
• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited institution or minimum 10 years of field service, project management and/or proposal generation experience with critical power distribution systems.
• Experience in managing construction projects in California under a General Contractor license.
• Must hold an active California General Contractor Class B license or demonstrate the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire, including documented experience with the application, bonding, and testing process.
• Must have 5+ years construction project management, with field experience. Telecom or general contracting environment experience preferred.
• Operational knowledge of CSLB (Contractors State License Board) requirements and compliance.
• Experience with permitting and inspections in California jurisdictions.
• Working knowledge of IEEE, NERC/FERC, NESC, NEC, and GR1275.
• Demonstrated financial success as a manager, with 5+ years of management experience.
• OSHA 30 and NFPA Certification.
• Strong communication, problem solving, and analytical skills.
• Ability to organize his/her own work and work independently, with limited supervision.
• Capable of working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with diverse needs, and across remote offices.
• Ability to clearly articulate ideas (both written and verbal) to both internal and external customers and to listen effectively to customer needs.
• Ability to develop and maintain strong workplace relationships with an emphasis on customer satisfaction.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other departments toward the greater good of the organization.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment.
• Experience with ERP process flow.
• Ability to set reasonable and attainable service goals in a variety of markets.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office platforms.
• Requires travel up to 75% of the time, including overnight travel, evenings or weekends, may be required.
