Psychologist Candidate - Denver

Who May Apply Open to Colorado state residents only. Description of Job This position provides professional psychological services under the supervision of a licensed psychologist until the applicant obtains a license. The Psychologist Candidate will serve a special population of inmates with mental illness or behavioral problems in compliance with DOC Mental Health Clinical Standards and Procedures. Responsibilities include psychological assessment of mental health needs, individual and group therapy, clinical and behavioral management, staff assistance and training regarding inmate mental health needs, and direct care in psychiatric crises or emergencies. The position participates in a 24‑hour Mental Health On‑Call Rotation. Minimum Qualifications Current, valid permit as a Psychologist Candidate from the Colorado State Board of Psychologist Examiners. Valid U.S. work authorization. High‑school diploma or GED. No felony convictions and compliance with all applicable law regarding criminal history. Physical ability to complete basic defensive tactics training and pass TB screening. Preferred Qualifications Experience providing behavioral health treatment within a correctional environment. Listing with the Sex Offender Management Board as a treatment provider or evaluator. Required Competencies Ability to interact with and provide direct care to inmates. Advanced knowledge of mental health standards and guidelines. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Read and comprehend written English; effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Create accessible documents following plain‑language guidelines. Remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure. Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high‑stakes interaction.
