Job Description

Under the direction of the Radiologist and CT Supervisor, this position involves performing CT procedures in accordance with departmental protocols. The role requires working independently in a dynamic environment and performing various technical procedures including interventional cases, CT Angiography, and advanced 3D reconstruction. Adherence to the ALARA principle for radiation safety is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Support and promote the organizational mission and values.
• Acquire scans per radiologist and department protocols.
• Inform patients about the exam and provide instructions to ensure cooperation.
• Assist radiologists during interventional procedures.
• Coordinate daily workload, scheduling inpatients, and prioritizing emergency department patients while considering outpatient schedules.
• Review patient IV Contrast Questionnaire for those receiving IV contrast.
• Document all relevant information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Review exams in PACS for completeness before submission to the radiologist.
• Be responsible for the safety of all patients throughout procedures.
• Provide assistance with 24/7 departmental coverage as needed.
• Arrive punctually for all assigned shifts, including on-call, holidays, and weekends.
• Complete mandatory training, competencies, and continuing education units (CEUs) as required.
• Maintain professional dress code and ensure HIPAA compliance.
• Engage in cleaning, stocking supplies, and maintaining a professional workspace.
• Perform other duties consistent with the role as required.

Job Knowledge and Skills

• Proficient in CT Scan software, preferably GE and Siemens.
• Familiarity with PACS software, specifically McKesson Change Healthcare, is preferred.
• Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record systems, especially Epic.
• Ability to prepare, position, and conduct patient scans according to established protocols.
• Identify anatomical structures, pathology, and contrast enhancement in cross-sectional images.
• Gather pertinent patient history to validate medical necessity.
• Practice radiation reduction techniques to ensure safety for patients and staff.
• Understand daily quality assurance procedures and equipment warm-up requirements.
• Able to troubleshoot issues with CT Scan equipment, contacting service as necessary.
• Consistently apply the ALARA principle in daily operations.

Education and Experience

• Current ARRT certification required; ARRT CT Registry eligibility preferred.
• NH Imaging License is required.
• BLS Certification required.
• CT Scan experience is mandatory.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates competency in the responsibilities outlined may be considered.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

The role requires the physical and mental capabilities to perform tasks typically associated with this position, including a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Employees may frequently lift or carry up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Some stress may arise from the high level of responsibility for delivering quality care.
