About the Position Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Research Associate II to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. May exercise technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. This position will be in support of the Division of Health Policy and Management within the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) School of Medicine. The Division of Health Policy and Management conducts and disseminates full‑scope and rapid‑response research to enhance understanding of policy levers and system factors influencing effectiveness, efficiency, and equity of the Military Health System for Uniformed Service Members and their families. The research team utilizes rigorous economic, econometric, and computational methods, grounded in solid theoretical frameworks, to analyze the impacts of crucial health policies and proposals on the health of the military service population, health care delivery and costs, and value within the health system. Research projects will be related to health economics, health policy and health services research with a focus on health care utilization and costs and health outcomes in the military health system (MHS). Responsibilities Performs data analysis and interpretation, and verifies and corrects data entry. Trains junior staff in data analysis techniques and processes, as needed. Conducts research in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. Performs complex statistical analyses and determinations, involving multiple procedures and a variety of technical approaches. Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation. Coordinates and contributes to new grant and funding applications. Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals. Prepares funding documents, written reports, manuscripts for submission to scientific journals. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. Qualifications Education and Experience Master's Degree in a related scientific discipline. Degree in healthcare economics, economics, health services research and health policy highly preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience required. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of applicable statistical software including R and/or Python; ability to analyze and interpret data. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures. Analytical and logical skills. Strong attention to detail. Ability to meet deadlines of projects. May require US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain T3/Secret Clearance. Physical Capabilities Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods Work Environment This position will take place primarily in an office setting. Compensation The annual salary range for this position is $61,000-$80,000.
