Insurance Defense Associate Attorney

An established litigation firm is seeking an Insurance Defense Associate Attorney to support its growing practice in Colorado. The firm is looking for an attorney with 2-9 years of civil litigation experience, primarily in insurance defense, who can independently manage litigation matters and maintain effective working relationships with insurance carrier clients.

The ideal candidate will bring strong litigation skills, sound case judgment, and a commitment to responsive client service and efficient case resolution.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a full caseload of insurance defense matters from intake through resolution.
• Handle general liability, automobile liability, professional liability, premises liability, construction defect, and similar litigation.
• Research legal issues and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and client correspondence.
• Take and defend depositions, including expert and critical witness depositions.
• Attend hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, with second-chair trial experience required at a minimum.
• Advise carrier clients on case strategy, litigation developments, budgets, and anticipated outcomes.
• Follow carrier-specific litigation guidelines, billing procedures, and reporting requirements.
• Coordinate expert retention, approvals, budgets, and invoices.
• Collaborate with attorneys and legal support teams to ensure timely and effective case management.

Required Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active Colorado bar license.
• 2-9 years of civil litigation experience, primarily in insurance defense.
• Prior trial or arbitration experience, including second-chair participation.
• Experience handling insurance carrier clients and complying with litigation guidelines.
• Strong research, writing, oral advocacy, and analytical skills.
• Demonstrated accuracy in billing and compliance with client reporting requirements.
• Familiarity with legal research platforms and case management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with an insurance carrier, claims department, or carrier-panel defense firm.
• Existing relationships within the Colorado insurance defense community.
• Experience with carrier billing platforms and AI-assisted legal technology.

Compensation and Work Environment

The annual billable-hour expectation is approximately 1,800 hours. Target compensation is $125,000-$145,000, with additional earning potential tied to production.

Remote work may be considered, subject to court appearances and other in-person obligations.
