Phlebotomist - Full-time - Evening

Position Under direct supervision, the Phlebotomy Lab Assistant provides phlebotomy/accessioning service and utilizes appropriate equipment to collect, receive, accession, process pathology and laboratory specimens, as well as provide laboratory information and reports to customers. Hours Evening shift: 1:30PM to 10:00PM, with weekend availability. Education & Certifications High School diploma. Licences/Certifications: Not applicable. Experience 6 months of related phlebotomy experience or 6 months of related laboratory accessioning experience. Skills Knowledge of medical terminology Knowledge of phlebotomy techniques and practices Skill in oral and written communication Skill in utilizing customer service techniques Skill in performing basic arithmetic Skills in using a computer and personal productivity applications Ability to type Ability to reduce anxiety in patients while performing patient care related duties Responsibilities Extract blood from patients and perform all phlebotomy procedures, including children and infants, according to established aseptic venipuncture technique. Document all phlebotomy rounds and detailed patient information. Enter accurate and complete patient demographic information, laboratory test orders, and verify specimen collection and receipt. Prepare and process specimens for clinical laboratory testing (labeling, measuring, aliquoting, centrifuging, etc.) and distribute them to appropriate work areas. Perform quality EKGs and complete required demographic information. Screen and interview autologous and therapeutic donors according to protocol, completing all donor room QC daily and following universal precautions. Complete donor documentation accurately at time of donation. Maintain centrifuge, label maintenance, disinfection of counters, filing, and requisition boxing; stock and maintain supplies. Check all outpatient orders for accuracy, match requisitions to Meditech orders and labels, and respond to all statistics promptly. Register Quest and Sheppard Pratt accurately. Participate in the laboratory’s continuing education program and meet policy requirements; share knowledge through presentations. Ensure patient safety by following identification procedures with two patient identifiers and double‑checking specimens against entered orders. Package and transport specimens according to policy, ensuring timely delivery to the laboratory. Pay Range $17.30 – $25.11 hourly, final offer based on qualifications, education, experience, and alignment with organizational needs.
