Position Overview Community Training Home II Direct Support Professional (DSP I) – Full‑time position. Responsible for the care, training, and support of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, facilitating their independence and community integration. Qualifications High school graduate or GED, 18 years or older. At least one year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or a related field. Valid South Carolina driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a good driving record; able to pass a criminal background check. Flexibility to work varied hours and shift changes on short notice. Ability to work independently and autonomously. Must be CPR/First‑Aid certified or be willing to complete training. Primary Responsibilities Provide direct care and training in accordance with individual care plans, behavior modification strategies, and safety protocols. Coordinate special techniques, behavior supports, supervision, and security measures to support community integration. Assist with medication administration and monitor medication compliance. Support transportation to day programs, recreational outings, and other community activities. Prepare and serve appropriate meals as directed by a dietitian. Additional Responsibilities Assist with self‑care activities (bathing, toileting, grooming, medication administration, etc.). Serve as a role model and develop rapport with residents, ensuring their rights, safety, dignity, and respect. Identify and provide natural learning opportunities and document data during formal training sessions. Reinforce informal training throughout daily routines. Implement and document behavior support programs, including use of physical interventions and restraints as trained. Provide recreational opportunities and transportation logistics. Participate in Plan of Service and CTH II Team Meetings (CTM). Assist the Coordinator with task analysis and monthly progress notes. Maintain a safe and clean environment, reporting maintenance needs and performing housekeeping tasks. Attend scheduled training sessions and support ongoing program operations. Relationship and Contacts with Others Act as a representative of Community Training Homes and the Colleton County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs when interacting with other agencies, businesses, and communities. Maintain professional conduct and build cooperative relationships with staff from Community Residential Care Facilities, Supervised Living Programs, and other oversight entities. Schedule and Time Management Work approximately forty hours per week with flexibility to accommodate agency, staff, and consumer needs. Complete assignments and documentation promptly. Provide overtime eligibility as a non‑exempt hourly position. Communication Prepare clear and concise documentation as required. Use professional communication via memos, email, phone, and other media. Advocate continually for resident needs. Policies and Procedures Adhere to policies and procedures of the Colleton County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs, DHEC licensing standards, and all applicable federal and state laws. Follow memorandums, directives, and confidentiality requirements. Typical Physical Demands Sit, stand, bend, lift, and transfer adults; housekeeping and cooking tasks may involve lifting up to 50 pounds with two‑person lifts or mechanical equipment. Perform physical interventions as needed. Typical Working Conditions Work in furnished homes with individuals with developmental disabilities; may interact with families, medical staff, and agency personnel. Encounter potential hostility or aggressive behaviors; safety protocols apply. Work weekends and holidays as directed; may require additional hours. Exposure to infectious diseases or hazardous materials is possible.
