Advanced Practitioners provide a wide variety of clinical services including treatment of acute episodic conditions such as sore throats, colds, flu-like symptoms, cuts, sprains and minor infections. Functioning in lieu of or alongside of a physician, it is essential for an urgent care Advanced Practitioner to have excellent assessment skills in order to recognize more serious conditions and direct the patient to the emergency room for advanced care when necessary.Job RequirementsEducationBachelor's Degree required for Physician AssistantsMaster's Degree required for Nurse PractitionersWork Experience2-5 years of post-residency clinical experience requiredMinimum 18 months experience in applicable practice setting requiredAdult and pediatric practice experience strongly preferredRequired Licenses/CertificationsNational Certification (ANNC or AANP)Active state medical licensureAdditional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities RequiredWork experience in an Urgent Care or Emergency Room settingApplicable office procedures including but not limited to suturing, splinting, etc.Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities PreferredKnowledge and experience with Electronic Medical RecordsAbility to be attentive with strong listening skillsStrong communication and customer service skillsEssential FunctionsExamining and treating patientsTaking patients’ medical historiesOrdering and interpreting diagnostic tests and X-raysMaking diagnoses and prescribing medicationsTreating minor injuries that may require sutures, splints, or castingRecording progress notes for follow-up patientsEducating and counseling patientsOrdering and/or carrying out therapy with patientsGiving vaccinations, and referring patients to additional careAll other duties as assignedNote: this job description is not inclusive of all the duties of the position.
