Position Summary Boston Medical Center (BMC) is the largest safety‑net hospital and primary teaching affiliate of Boston University School of Medicine. Position Details Position: Registered Nurse Department: Primary Care Schedule: Full Time Responsibilities Consistently utilizes all steps of the nursing process in the provision of timely, safe, efficient and appropriate patient/centered care. Assesses the patient and family systematically and ongoingly for overt and covert signs and symptoms. Collects pertinent data using appropriate assessment techniques and prioritizes data according to the patient’s immediate condition or needs. Involves the patient, family/significant others, and appropriate health care providers in the collection of data when appropriate. Communicates clearly, writes concisely, and documents relevant patient care data in compliance with departmental policies. Identifies emergency/crisis situations, communicates them in a timely manner, and responds appropriately. Analyzes assessment data to determine appropriate nursing diagnoses and documents them. Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient and documents realistic, appropriate clinical and educational outcomes. Develops and documents an individualized plan of care reflecting the patient’s condition, prioritizing needs, and ensuring continuity of care. Implements interventions identified in the nursing and medical plan of care and prioritizes patient‑care interventions based on fluctuating needs. Debrief, evaluate, and revise care plans as needed, including patient and family education on illness, procedures and prevention. Provides follow‑up care via home visits or telephone when appropriate. Documents interventions and patient responses according to departmental policy. Standards of Professional Performance Systematically evaluates the quality, cost, and effectiveness of nursing practice. Participates or leads quality improvement and/or research activities as appropriate. Uses patient satisfaction and quality data to initiate practice changes. Completes daily patient classification data and incident reports on time. Participates in cost containment initiatives and practices. Evaluates alternatives for the same outcome based on safety, effectiveness and cost. Acts professionally in accordance with statutes, regulations and practice standards. Maintains competency through ongoing education and certification. Demonstrates flexibility, reliability, and professionalism in all duties. Provides constructive feedback, mentors others, and acts as a resource for new staff. Qualifications Education: Nursing degree: Diploma, ASN, or BSN (preferred); ability to obtain BSN within 4 years. Licensure: Current RN licensure in Massachusetts in good standing. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required for some units. Experience: Varies depending on unit/department. Knowledge and Skills: Basic computer proficiency; effective interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills; ability to delegate; proficiency in English (multilingual preferred). Compensation $38.05 – $75.33 per hour.
