Machine Operator

Machine Operator CNC Lathe or Mill

This role focuses on operating CNC lathes or mill in a high-production machining environment while maintaining strong quality standards. You will interpret work orders, handle parts throughout the machining process, and use basic mechanical skills to adjust and inspect parts. The position suits someone who is mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and able to work in a fast-paced, hands-on production setting.

Responsibilities

• Operate a CNC lathe to machine parts according to work orders and production requirements.
• Interpret and follow detailed work orders, including punching in for each job and tracking each step in the process.
• Bend up and down into large tubs to select raw parts for machining and to retrieve finished parts after cycles are complete.
• Learn to make basic adjustments to the machine and parts to maintain accuracy and quality during production.
• Grind parts after machining to smooth down flares and ensure clean, finished surfaces.
• Check and verify the quality of parts between cycles using appropriate measuring tools and inspection methods.
• Use micrometers, calipers, and other quality tools to measure parts and confirm they meet specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints to understand part dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
• Apply basic mechanical reasoning skills to troubleshoot minor issues and keep production moving efficiently.
• Demonstrate initiative, hustle, and the ability to keep up with production demands in a busy environment.
• Complete a basic mechanical reasoning test as part of the interview process.
• Follow safety guidelines and proper use of hand tools, measuring tools, and equipment throughout the shift.

Essential Skills

• Ability to operate or learn to operate a CNC lathe in a production environment.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with machines, tools, and moving parts.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints to understand dimensions and tolerances.
• Proficiency using quality tools such as micrometers and calipers for measuring parts.
• Basic understanding of production and manufacturing processes.
• Physical ability to bend, lift, and reach into large tubs repeatedly throughout the shift.
• Willingness and ability to work 12-hour days and weekends as needed.
• Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment and keep up with production requirements.
• Readiness to complete a basic mechanical reasoning test during the interview process.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience using additional measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, and other hand measurement tools.
• Prior manufacturing or production experience is preferred but not required.
• Six months to one year of machine operating experience is a plus but not mandatory.
• Familiarity with CNC operation, including mills or lathes, is beneficial.
• Experience using hand tools in a mechanical or production setting.
• Comfort working with quality tools and following established inspection procedures.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing environment and involves working on the production floor around machinery and equipment while following established safety and quality standards.

Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Peoria, IL.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
