Ana Bird Legal Search is partnering with a sophisticated national law firm seeking a talented Bankruptcy & Corporate Restructuring Associate to join its highly regarded restructuring practice in New York.

This opportunity is ideal for a third through fifth year associate with meaningful Chapter 11 and corporate restructuring experience who is looking for greater substantive responsibility, hands-on bankruptcy court experience, and the opportunity to continue developing within a sophisticated national platform.

The practice handles complex, high-stakes restructuring matters for a diverse client base. The team's work spans Chapter 11 reorganizations, out-of-court workouts, liquidations, distressed situations, insolvency-related litigation, corporate investigations, and other sophisticated restructuring and bankruptcy matters.

What particularly distinguishes this opportunity is the level of hands-on experience and access available to associates. The incoming attorney will work closely with senior members of the restructuring team and have the opportunity to build meaningful courtroom, advocacy, client-management, and matter-management experience.

This is not a role for an associate who wants to remain several layers removed from the substantive work. The team is looking for someone who wants to take ownership, develop as an advocate, work directly with experienced restructuring attorneys, and continue building toward a sophisticated long-term bankruptcy and restructuring practice.

Responsibilities

Represent debtors, creditors, and official committees of unsecured creditors in sophisticated Chapter 11 cases and corporate restructurings.

Draft and argue substantive motions in bankruptcy court.

Participate actively in bankruptcy court hearings and contested matters.

Work on complex Chapter 11 reorganizations, out-of-court workouts, liquidations, distressed situations, and insolvency-related disputes.

Manage significant components of sophisticated restructuring matters and multiple engagements simultaneously.

Work closely with senior restructuring attorneys on case strategy, written advocacy, and matter management.

Develop and maintain strong client relationships while providing practical, thoughtful legal counsel.

Take increasing ownership of matters while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing restructuring practice.

Qualifications

Approximately three to five years of substantive bankruptcy and corporate restructuring experience within a sophisticated law firm environment.

Meaningful experience handling Chapter 11 proceedings and corporate restructurings.

Experience representing debtors, creditors, official committees of unsecured creditors, or a combination of these constituencies.

Substantial bankruptcy court experience, including drafting motions, participating in hearings, and handling contested matters.

Experience arguing motions or otherwise taking substantive responsibility in bankruptcy proceedings.

Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, advocacy, and communication skills.

Strong academic credentials.

Demonstrated ability to manage sophisticated matters and multiple significant engagements simultaneously.

Strong client-management skills and a collaborative approach to practice.

Judicial clerkship experience is preferred but not required.

Juris Doctor (J.D.) and admission to practice in New York.

Competitive base compensation ranging from $250,000 to $325,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
