RN - Cardiac Cath Lab Specialist
Join a dedicated healthcare team in the Midwest region as a Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse, providing expert patient care through comprehensive nursing knowledge and skills. General Summary
The Cardiac Cath Lab RN delivers direct patient care, ensuring safety and quality through the nursing process. Responsibilities include administering medications, performing nursing interventions, and educating patients and families to support positive health outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to maintain an optimal care environment.
- Provide quality nursing care, including medication administration and patient teaching, aligned with facility guidelines.
- Engage in quality monitoring and process improvement initiatives as directed by leadership.
- Administer conscious sedation, peri-procedural pharmacologic agents, and emergency medications safely and effectively.
- Conduct thorough initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status and communicate findings to the healthcare team.
- Demonstrate critical thinking in patient and situational assessments.
- Maintain accurate and efficient documentation of all patient care activities and quality measures compliance.
- Communicate pertinent patient information to physicians and team members to enhance care outcomes.
- Provide timely communication to patients and families to improve their experience and support learning.
- Address patient care concerns professionally and perform service recovery as needed.
- Foster teamwork and accountability by delegating appropriately and maintaining professional communication.
- Adapt positively to healthcare dynamics and pursue ongoing education to enhance nursing skills.
- Document procedural details including vital signs, cardiac rhythms, medications, and supplies used during cath lab cases.
- Interpret hemodynamic waveforms and data recorded during procedures.
Education
Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.
Experience
At least one year of critical care or equivalent nursing experience is necessary. Experience in interventional cardiac cath lab settings is advantageous.
Certification and Licensure
- Current RN license valid in the state or through compact licensure.
- BLS and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association are mandatory.
Mental and Physical Requirements
This role demands considerable mental focus and physical stamina, including frequent heavy lifting, extended standing periods wearing lead aprons, and the ability to perform CPR. The nurse must be capable of pulling sheaths and applying pressure for extended durations.
Working Conditions
Employees must wear full lead attire for radiation safety and may be exposed to communicable diseases, infectious materials, radiation, and occasionally hostile individuals. Handling sharps and biohazardous materials is routine. The ability to function effectively under stress is essential.
