Radiotherapy Technologist/Radiation Technologist

NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn is a full‑service teaching hospital and Level I trauma center located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. It is central to a comprehensive network of affiliated ambulatory and outpatient practices and serves as NYU Langone Health’s anchor for healthcare access, growth, and delivery in the entire borough. Position Summary Radiotherapy Technologist/Radiation Technologist. Applies scientific knowledge and theory to the practical use of high‑energy beams to provide radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by physician according to established standards and protocols. Job Responsibilities Deliver a prescribed and planned course of radiation therapy to patients by checking prescription, diagnosis, chart, patient identification, etc.; schedule patients and explain procedures pre‑ and post‑treatment, answer questions, and reassure patients. Perform all other duties assigned or requested, or directed by department head and/or chief technologist. Attend staff meetings, workshops and seminars both in and outside the hospital to increase knowledge and refine skills. Maintain records, reports and files as required; collect statistics as directed. Assist with maintenance of department facilities, equipment and supplies; maintain stock levels; report maintenance and repair needs to supervisor. Check daily beam direction and calibrations; report erratic operation to engineer, physicist or dosimetrist. Aid in training medical students of Radiotherapy Technology School. Assist in tumor localization and dosimetry procedures; follow up in clinic or other exams. Observe patient for any unusual reactions or events; report to designated personnel and assist in emergency treatment; observe radiation safety measures for patient and personnel. Consider the age, growth and developmental stage of the individual when assessing, treating or caring for patients. Reinforce recommendations given by physician, dietician, etc., concerning reactions to treatment and care of the radiated area; change dressing as necessary. Prepare room and equipment for patient according to prescription; transfer patient to treatment couch; withhold treatment pending decision by radiation oncologist if indicated; maintain visual and/or audible contact with patient during treatment; check daily treatment time and deliver prescribed dose; maintain patient markings; document treatment; keep physician informed; change therapy as ordered; take and check films of all treated areas, process and file. Interface with physicist, planning and mold tech at initiation of treatment; act as liaison with supportive care physicians and nurses. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited program in radiation therapy technology. At least two years of training in an accredited program in radiation therapy technology as a student. Willingness to devote the time required to complete assigned tasks on schedule; ability to function in a high‑stress environment. Current New York State License, Department of Health. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education and hospital need. The salary range does not include bonuses, incentives or other forms of compensation or benefits.
