Job Summary
Medical-Surgical (Med Surg) Registered Nurse (RN) Neurosciences (Neuro) Cape Girardeau, MO. The organization is seeking an RN to provide nursing care for medical and surgical neuroscience patients, including populations such as Parkinsons and stroke, with support focused on clinical assessments, documentation, medication administration, and patient/family education. Candidates must bring their license on the first day of employment.

Job Details

• Schedule: Nights, 7:00 PM7:00 AM; 12 shift hours; minimum of 36 hours per week
• Required Qualifications: Current RN licensure (license required on the first day); Basic Life Support (BLS); NIH (can be completed at Orientation); at least 1 year of experience in a medical/surgical setting; charge experience (or willingness to learn and take on charge duties)
• Preferred Qualifications: Neuro and stroke experience
• Responsibilities: Deliver nursing care by developing nursing diagnoses; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support; noting and reporting changing conditions; re-evaluating care objectives; assuring quality care by adhering to professional standards, healthcare organization policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards; maintaining a safe and healthy patient care environment by following infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations; documenting patient care services by charting in patient and department records; protecting healthcare organization value by keeping information confidential; monitoring, recording, and reporting symptoms or changes in patients conditions to the appropriate healthcare team member; consulting and coordinating with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans; modifying patient treatment plans based on patient responses; monitoring all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity; instructing individuals and families on health education, disease prevention and management; reviewing provider orders and communicating the nursing care plan to the healthcare team; administering medications and performing nursing interventions while monitoring for reactions or side effects; preparing patients for and assisting with exams; explaining procedures/treatment/discharge to patients and families to verify understanding; demonstrating IV therapy competency including care for central lines; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms and quickly reacting in emergency situations; providing appropriate supervision and delegation of duties to unlicensed assistive personnel and other ancillary staff; supporting compliance with Joint Commission standards regarding National Patient Safety Goals and other accreditation requirements; attending neuroscience-related training as assigned
• Additional Information: Flu vaccination is required for all travelers from November 1 through April 1; exemptions must be client approved. Block requests are considered, but not guaranteed. Standard weekend expectation is every other full weekend (Saturday and Sunday will be required unless otherwise approved by the leader prior to confirmation). Candidates should be expected to work at least one of the major summer (Memorial, July 4th, or Labor Day) or winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years Day).
