Our client is seeking a hands-on Controller or Accounting Manager with strong construction accounting experience . This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who can independently manage day-to-day accounting operations in a project-based environment. There are no direct reports , so the position requires someone comfortable being fully involved in the work while partnering closely with leadership and operations. This role will focus heavily on project cost tracking, payroll, payroll taxes, and WIP reporting . Procore experience is a plus. This position is onsite during training and transitions to a hybrid schedule afterward.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations in a hands-on capacity for a construction-focused business.
• Track and analyze costs by project , ensuring accurate job cost reporting and project-level financial visibility.
• Process and oversee payroll and related payroll tax activities with accuracy and timeliness.
• Prepare and maintain work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and support project profitability analysis.
• Perform account reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance.
• Support the month-end and year-end close process, including preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Monitor cash flow, payables, receivables, and project-related financial activity.
• Partner with leadership and operations teams to support budgeting, project reporting, and financial decision-making.
• Help maintain internal controls and improve accounting processes and reporting efficiency.
• Utilize accounting and project management systems, including Procore , if applicable.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• Strong construction accounting experience required .
• Experience with job costing, project cost tracking, payroll, payroll taxes, and WIP reporting required .
• Ability to work effectively in a hands-on role with no direct reports .
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, close process, and financial reporting.
• Procore experience is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Professional demeanor with strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
• Comfortable working onsite during training and then in a hybrid work schedule
