Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a Litigation Attorney . The right candidate will support the company's business objectives, defend and pursue its legal interests. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Manage litigation matters, including oversight and collaboration with outside counsel * Perform initial Case Investigation and Assessment * Assist in responding to discovery requests, subpoenas, government inquiries, and regulatory investigations Advise internal stakeholders and senior management on legal risks associated with business activities and proposed courses of action * Work collaboratively with other members of the legal team, as well as cross-functional teams across the organization, to achieve strategic objectives, manage legal risks effectively, and effect resolution among all parties * Locate and take preliminary statements from witnesses, reviewing documents, client interviews and investigation of relevant events leading up to the dispute * Actively drive cases to resolution and participate in mediations and settlement conferences Maintain and update matter management systems, including opening matters, tracking status, managing budgets, and reporting on outcomes * Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits required to maintain licensure * Maintain current knowledge of legal developments, trends, and best practices relevant to the organization's business * Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company * Ability to travel overnight Supervisory Responsibilities * May have supervisory responsibilities Qualifications Education and/or Experience * Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and current license to practice law is required * Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience * Ability to negotiate and litigate cases effectively * Strong knowledge of relevant laws and regulations * Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective representation and the ability to provide clear and concise business-focused legal advice * Proficiency in legal drafting for the preparation of contracts, pleadings, and briefs * Attention to detail and strong analytical skills for case analysis * Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team of attorneys * Ability to multitask, work independently and carry out important projects with limited oversight * Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and a desire for learning new areas of law and regulation in a variety of jurisdictions * Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications * Proficiency with MS Office and email * Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
