Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR)

Shift Notes

This position requires availability on Saturdays and Sundays with rotating weekdays; Fridays or Mondays. Shifts are from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM, involving three 12-hour shifts per week. Participation in holiday rotations is expected. There are no on-call requirements.

Unit Information

• Patient Ratios: 1:1
• Bed Size: 16
• Average Caseload: 35-50 cases per day, with an expectation for turnovers of less than 20 minutes.
• Special Equipment: Includes 3 Da Vinci robots, Stealth technology for Neuro navigation, and primarily Synthes or Stryker for orthopedic trauma.
• Operating Rooms: 16 ORs, routinely running 12-14. As a Level 1 trauma center, we reserve space for trauma cases.
• Service Lines: Cardiac/PV, Neuro, orthopedic (primarily trauma), robotics, gynecology, urology, general, pediatrics, and transplants. Limited volume of ENT and plastic procedures.
• Float Requirements: Travelers must be willing to float across all campuses.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 24 months of recent experience in the operating room is required.
• Experience in circulating and operating room roles is required.
• Scrub experience is highly preferred.
• Experience in the following cases is required: General, Da Vinci Robotics, Pediatrics, and Trauma.
• Additional experience in Neurology, Orthopedics (primarily trauma), Gynecology, Urology, Transplants, Plastics, Ear, Nose, and Throat, and Vascular surgery is highly preferred.
• Experience with EPIC Electronic Medical Records within the past three years is required.
• Experience in Trauma Level I healthcare settings is highly preferred while Trauma Level II experience is required.
• Travel experience within the last 15 months is required.

Licensure and Certification

• Active Iowa or Compact/Multistate Nursing License is required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.

Other Information

The position requires working one to two of the three upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed. Scrubs will be provided for this role.
