Fiber Optic Splicer – Job Description
Position Summary
The Fiber Optic Splicer is responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic networks in a variety of environments including aerial, underground, and FTTH systems. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high-quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, splice, and maintain new and existing fiber optic networks.
- Prepare and splice single-mode (SM) and multi-mode (MM) fiber optic cables, including ribbon and loose tube configurations.
- Perform fiber splicing using single and mass fusion splicing equipment.
- Terminate fiber using connectors and pigtails.
- Conduct testing using OTDR, OLTS, power meters, and VFL equipment.
- Install splice closures, capsules, and associated hardware.
- Perform mid-sheath cable entries and work within active fiber networks.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and respond to network outages.
- Maintain system integrity without causing service interruptions.
- Document all work performed, including production reports, test results, and customer documentation.
- Maintain and care for tools, equipment, vehicles, and trailers.
- Complete certification testing and ensure network performance meets specifications.
- Follow all safety regulations including OSHA, NESC, NEC, and company standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in fiber optic splicing required.
- Certified in fiber optic splicing preferred
- Pay range $25-35 hourly
