Overnight Emergency Veterinarian - Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group

Position Overview We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Emergency Veterinarian (Full‑Time Overnight) to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high‑quality veterinary care and possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with our clients. You will work alongside a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and will work closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager. Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group - Orange County (VMSG-OC) in San Juan Capistrano, California is a 24‑hour specialty and emergency referral hospital. Why Join Us Our 10,000 square‑foot facility includes a large intensive care unit, special procedure rooms, on‑site CT scanner, digital radiography, fluoroscopy, an in‑house laboratory, color flow Doppler ultrasound, and extensive monitoring equipment. We have complete endoscopic, laparoscopic, and thoracoscopy instrumentation, as well as the ability to perform long‑term ventilation (Respironics ventilator). Our technical staff is highly trained and includes multiple registered veterinary technicians. Position offers high earning potential with a high minimum base salary, generous production plan, up to $75,000 sign‑on bonus, and relocation assistance if needed. Work schedule: 3 days a week, Thursday–Saturday overnight shifts, 8 shifts per month for day shifts. Key Responsibilities Comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups. Client communication and education. Perform diagnostic procedures and surgery. Maintain accurate medical records. Pharmacy duties such as prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols. Promote teamwork and staff efficiency. Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations. Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily operations from intake to discharge. Monitor cases and attend daily rounds to uphold high standards. Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications (Required) DVM or VMD degree from an accredited college or university. Current State Veterinary License. DEA registration maintained. 1+ years experience in a veterinary emergency practice. Strong diagnostic and clinical skills. Excellent surgical and dental skills. Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Commitment to compassionate, high‑quality care. Effective communication with all members of the medical and hospital staff. Client communication skills: elicit information, establish rapport, offer explanations. Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or painful pets. Physical tasks: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be required. Moderately physically demanding work; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skill in animal examinations and assessments; perform cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological examinations. Develop solutions for hospital management challenges. Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and staff. Professionalism: provide and receive constructive feedback. Business acumen: understand hospital management and finances. Ethics: knowledge of ethical principles guiding patient decisions.
