Our Health Center offers a range of primary and specialty health care for adults and children, including specialized clinics, Eye Care, Dental, Adult Medicine, Pediatrics, and OB/GYN.

Summary/Objective

The Staff Nurse is a key member of the care team responsible for providing competent, comprehensive, culturally sensitive, and age-appropriate care. The RN applies sound clinical judgment along with strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills to support positive patient outcomes. The RN collaborates confidentially with patients, families, providers, and other members of the care team and may delegate to and supervise licensed and non-licensed support staff as appropriate.

Essential Functions

Clinical Care

• Manage individualized, outcome-oriented nursing care through the use of the nursing process.

• Provide care, treatment, and services through assessment, care planning, coordination, intervention, and evaluation of patient outcomes.

• Provide clinically based, risk-reducing care and coordination that supports the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective healthcare.

• Perform hearing and vision screenings.

• Perform CLIA-waived laboratory testing, including urinalysis, pregnancy tests, rapid strep tests, blood glucose, rapid trichomonas testing, and other approved testing.

• Perform patient triage and provide appropriate clinical advice.

• Administer medications, immunizations, and therapeutic injections.

• Perform suture and staple removal, dressings, and dressing changes.

• Provide patient education and encourage self-management.

• Conduct clinical assessments during emergencies.

• Room patients, including obtaining height, weight, blood pressure, BMI, and, for pediatrics, head circumference measurements.

• Perform EKGs, including pediatrics and adult medicine as needed.

• Manage Coumadin patients according to established adult medicine protocols.

Care Coordination and Patient Outreach

• Provide telephone triage and clinical advice.

• Follow up with patients after emergency department visits and hospitalizations.

• Conduct chronic disease follow-up and outreach.

• Obtain immunization records from other clinics and schools.

• Process prescription refills and respond to pharmacy calls.

• Coordinate VNA referrals.

• Conduct outreach related to preventive care, chronic disease management, immunizations, and other clinic-specific needs.

Administrative and Quality Responsibilities

• Order clinical supplies.

• Check code carts and emergency bags.

• Run and follow up on patient registries, including preventive services, immunizations, chronic care needs, newborn databases, Pap databases, family planning logs, and other clinic-specific registries.

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.

• Adhere to all center and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.

• Meet established standards and achieve desired results with appropriate attention to detail.

• Prioritize responsibilities and manage time and resources efficiently.

• Participate in quality improvement activities and identify opportunities to improve patient care and clinical workflows.

• Work collaboratively with physicians, care managers, healthcare teams, patients, and caregivers to achieve desired outcomes.

• Assist with departmental scheduling needs, including coverage for absences, emergencies, periods of high workload, holidays, and vacations.

Work Environment

This position operates in a clinical and ambulatory healthcare setting and requires regular interaction with patients, families, providers, and members of the multidisciplinary care team.

Physical Demands

Duties require frequent sitting, standing, and walking. The position may require lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling as necessary to perform assigned clinical duties.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There may be rotating Saturday shifts based on departmental needs.

Compensation

$38-$42 per hour, commensurate with experience.
