We offer patients convenient access to innovative treatments and advancements that improve the health and overall well-being of our community.ResponsibilitiesAssists pharmaceutical activities and functions related to medication use and monitoring for all patient care areas according to departmental and hospital guidelinesParticipates in studies, quality monitors and drug evaluations to improve pharmaceutical care and clinical outcomesPerforms patient care activities on the pharmacy computer system in a safe and timely mannerUtilizes a personal computer or terminal to access the Hospital Information System or the Pharmacy Purchasing SystemPerforms general pharmacy duties as needed by filling and dispensing medicationsPrepares and dispenses IV solutions and compounds medications including ChemotherapyDispenses controlled substances as defined by the controlled substance permitConfirms accuracy of work performed by pharmacy technician, including unit dose cartsReviews physician's orders for appropriate route, dose, scheduling and potential drug interactions and consults physicians as neededServes as a resource for medical and nursing staff regarding pharmaceutical activitiesProvides information on medications for patients as neededEncourages pharmacy and physician staff to use Formulary medicationsCommunicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephoneResponds to overhead pagesMaintains accurate and complete recordsUtilizes the correct documentation tools and procedures for all pharmacy functionsMaintains proper records for all medications and controlled substances dispensed or receivedAccepts and completes all duties positively and without conflictCooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the department; completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirementsMaintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas, equipment and supply areasAbides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's valuesAdheres to hospital policies including confidentialityTrains and orients new pharmacy employees to the department and their job functionsSafely performs essential functions with minimum supervisionUtilizes proper body mechanics when moving equipment and supplies that is necessary to perform essential functionsMaintains and operates equipment and reports broken or malfunctioning equipmentAdheres to current Infection control and safety standardsUtilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the jobDemonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to Neonate, Infant-Toddler/Preschool, School age/Adolescent, Reproductive age and Post/Peri Menopausal patient populationParticipates on committees as assignedPerformance improvement activities through quality measurement or participation of ICARE process as assignedAccesses and accurately maintains electronic and paper medical recordsCompletes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirementsAdheres to current Infection Control and Safety StandardsRegular and prompt attendanceAbility to work schedule as defined and overtime as requiredRelated duties as assignedQualificationsGraduation from a recognized school of Pharmacy as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama RequiredRPH - Registered Pharmacist - Licensure with the State of Alabama to practice pharmacy Required andCONSUBS - Pharmacist Control Substance Licensure with the State of Alabama to dispense Controlled Substances RequiredCompletion of an approved Alabama Board of Pharmacy IV certification program within 90 Days RequiredComparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action EmployerThe University of South Alabama is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, religion, age, genetic information, disability, protected veteran status or any other applicable legally protected basis.
