Position Summary

The Speech and Language Pathologist provides comprehensive speech and language services to middle school students with communication disorders that impact educational performance.

Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, the Speech and Language Pathologist evaluates students, develops and implements individualized intervention plans, participates in MET and IEP Team processes, and monitors student progress. This position supports students with articulation, voice, fluency, and language impairments while ensuring compliance with special education laws, regulations, and district procedures. The successful candidate demonstrates strong assessment, communication, collaboration, and report-writing skills and is committed to fostering student growth and achievement in an inclusive educational environment.

Qualifications

• Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA is required
• Master's degree in speech and language pathology
• A valid Michigan teacher's certificate is preferred
• Demonstrates understanding of human growth and development
• Understands and uses effective learning and teaching theories, strategies, and approaches
• Interprets, administers, and applies appropriate evaluation and diagnostic instruments
• Understands curriculum and related instruction for eligible students
• Knowledge of special education instructional systems
• Knowledge of laws, rules, and procedures related to special education

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides speech and language services to students on the caseload
• Functions as an effective team member in the MET and IEPT processes
• Demonstrates effective skills in evaluating students who manifest one or more of the following communication impairments that adversely affects educational performance: Articulation impairment, Voice impairment, Fluency impairment, Inappropriate language functioning for the child's age in the areas of phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, or pragmatic use of aural/oral language
• Excellent verbal and report writing skills in regard to communications with students, parents, and co-workers
• On-site presence is required for this position.

Terms of Employment

Salary, benefits, and other terms and conditions of employment shall be established by the Board of Education in accordance with district policy and applicable agreements.

Evaluation

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with district administrative procedures and applicable evaluation processes.
