Phlebotomist

Phlebotomist Location: Altru Hospital, 1200 South Columbia Road, Grand Forks, ND 58201. Pay Range: $16.26 - $24.38. Summary: The Phlebotomist collects (capillary and venipuncture) blood specimens from patients of all ages, assists patients with non‑blood collections and is responsible for specimen integrity through accuracy of patient identification, specimen labelling, collection steps and specimen transport. The position performs occasional point‑of‑care patient testing such as glucose and provides exceptional customer service. Essential Job Functions Perform patient identification and specimen labeling according to standard operating procedures. Understand phlebotomy processes and techniques to obtain quality blood specimens. Perform, interpret, and report point‑of‑care testing (e.g., glucose) and quality control. Process laboratory and patient reports according to standard operating procedures (printing, recording, distributing, faxing, filing, retrieving). Recognize problems, take appropriate action, document problems and corrective action, and notify the supervisor in a timely manner. Actively communicate throughout the shift and manage priority requests in a courteous and timely manner to ensure effective department workflow. Follow up with STAT, ASAP, and Pre‑op draws to ensure turnaround times are met. Perform other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization. Language Requirements Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required for effective communication with patients and team members.
