Flight Nurse - Center for Polar Medical Operations (CPMO), 6-9 Months Locum to Work in ANTARCTICA Join to apply for the Flight Nurse - Center for Polar Medical Operations (CPMO), 6-9 Months Locum to Work in ANTARCTICA role at The University of Texas Medical Branch Minimum Qualifications: RN from an accredited professional nursing school. Minimum of four (4) years RN experience, including recent Flight Nursing experience and Critical Care or Emergency Nursing. Must possess and maintain a current nursing license to practice in the United States. Current BCLS and ACLS certification(s). Job Description: To provide care and treatment for life support and/or stabilization of chronically or acutely ill and/or injured patients on station and/or on flights from and within Antarctica in collaboration with other health team members in support of the United States Antarctica Program. Responsible for ensuring and maintaining Medevac preparedness. Specific Job-Related Duties: Evaluate critically ill or injured patients of all age groups, provide therapeutic and emergency interventions, and prepare for transport (via ground, helicopter, or airplane) from station, field camps, or accident scenes. Act as primary care attendant for Medevac patients en route to New Zealand, maintaining contact with all involved parties for smooth information flow and patient support. Maintain Medevac supplies and equipment for immediate use; support clinic services at McMurdo Station as needed. Provide in-patient care when patients are admitted to the ward. Assess and detect changes in patient status, demonstrating a proactive approach to problem-solving. Maintain complete and accurate records of all patient encounters. Communicate effectively with outside institutions and agencies, including NSF, grantees, support contract employees, subcontractors, and international hospitals and emergency services. Plan and organize equipment and supplies for emergency conditions, ensuring proper return post-transport. Collect and analyze clinical and demographic data regarding Medevacs and prepare annual reports with recommendations. Perform physical tasks in confined spaces and adverse environmental conditions. Participate in staff meetings, training, and certification maintenance. Assist in planning and executing Mass Casualty Incident drills. Complete transport missions within shift timeframes, which may require working beyond normal hours. Job Functions: Perform additional duties as assigned, including community tasks such as shoveling snow, cooking, cleaning, and cargo handling. Work Schedule: 6 to 9 months locum in Antarctica.
