Job Overview RWJBH Primary Care Irvington is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to perform routine clinical and clerical tasks under the direction of a physician or other health practitioner. Clinical duties may include triage, taking and recording vital signs, medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, processing prescription refills, and assisting with minor procedures as directed. The CMA acts as a practice ambassador, contributing to overall patient experience, safety and privacy. Qualifications (Required) High School Diploma or GED At least 6 months of relevant experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience Qualifications (Preferred) Phlebotomy and EKG experience Knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) system, Epic Certifications and Licenses Required BLS Certification approved by the American Heart Association Medical Assistant Certification: AAMA, AECA, AMCA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, NCMA, or NHA Scheduling Requirements Monday – Friday: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm Saturday: 7:30 am – 2:00 pm, two Saturdays a month Full‑time Essential Functions Perform clinical tasks such as blood draws, EKGs, hearing and vision screens, urinalysis, injections, vaccinations, and medication administration, treatments and minor surgeries as needed Support practice needs with clerical tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, collecting co‑pays, preparing lab requests, and other clerical tasks as assigned Communicate with insurance providers and handle pre‑authorizations and certifications as necessary Prepare rooms, arrange instruments and equipment, and ensure a neat and sanitary environment Room patients, verify patient information, confirm purpose of visit, obtain and record vitals, and update medical history Communicate with patients and other providers per the instruction of the overseeing physician or health practitioner Create and maintain health record information, file and organize as needed Other duties as assigned Other Things to Know This job description outlines the core responsibilities of the role, but it’s not meant to cover every task you may take on.
