Position Summary:

The Optometrist functions as an active member of the interdisciplinary clinical team. The Optometrist provides comprehensive medical services including, but not limited to: examining patients, diagnosing conditions and providing treatments for patients

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform vision tests and analyze results
• Diagnose sight problems, such as nearsightedness or farsightedness and eye diseases, such as glaucoma
• Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and medications
• Provide treatments such as vision therapy or low-vision rehabilitation
• Provide pre- and postoperative care to patients undergoing eye surgery-for example, examining a patient's eyes the day after surgery
• Evaluate patients for the presence of diseases such as diabetes and refer patients to other healthcare providers as needed
• Promote eye health by counseling patients, including explaining how to clean and wear contact lenses

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• On call obligations
• Represent the agency on community committees involving healthcare issues, as deemed necessary
• Maintain licensure, to include the procurement of appropriate CMEs
• Participate in agency meetings, in-service trainings and workshops, as deemed appropriate
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited medical institution
• Licensed in the state of Georgia
• Ability to provide supervision to clinic team
• Ability to establish and maintain relationships with the medical community
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationship with patients
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Non-profit or public health experience preferred
