Welding Technician

The Welding Technician is responsible for ensuring welding, gouging, and blasting equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and ready for both field and in-house projects. Working under the direction of shop staff and/or a Field Project Manager, this role supports project setup, equipment readiness, and quality-focused operations. The position offers hands-on exposure to advanced welding processes, opportunities to assist with NDE tasks when qualified, and a clear path for career growth into areas such as production, quality control, safety, and research and development.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and calibrate welding, gouging, and blasting systems to ensure they are safe, reliable, and ready for field and in-house use.
• Assist with project setup activities, including staging and preparing all welding-related equipment and tooling for safe and efficient operations.
• Ensure all necessary materials, equipment, and tooling are present, properly maintained, and in safe working condition upon unload and throughout the duration of each project.
• Set up all equipment items associated with weld overlay projects, arranging and installing equipment to promote safety, efficiency, and good housekeeping in all workspaces.
• Monitor weld overlay machines and support equipment to verify they operate within specified parameters and support safe operations and quality end results.
• Assist with equipment logs and site inventory management, including tracking materials, consumables, and equipment usage for each project.
• Work with welding personnel and NDE personnel to train and demonstrate proper use, positioning, and setup of equipment to ensure quality standards are met.
• Follow and enforce all company safety policies, safety regulations, and safe work practices at all times, contributing to a strong safety culture.
• Support adherence to company quality standards while helping to meet productivity targets and project schedules.
• Ensure all equipment is accounted for, properly stored, and securely loaded by using original equipment checklists, and report or tag any missing or defective equipment.
• Assist union craft boilermakers and other craft personnel in a support role for various project tasks, as requested.
• Support warehouse operations, including repairing and testing equipment, assisting with fabrication and R&D activities, and performing general warehouse duties.
• Demonstrate effective teamwork, communication, and cooperation with all employees and customers.
• Assist with training duties for new technicians and weld operators, as needed.
• Perform NDE-related tasks such as visual testing (VT), penetrant testing (PT), and ultrasonic thickness (UT) measurements when appropriate training and certifications are completed.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience in the welding industry and/or industrial construction industry, with at least 1 year of practical work preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to perform equipment maintenance and readiness activities for welding, gouging, and blasting systems.
• Working knowledge of weld processes and welding projects, including the ability to support weld overlay operations.
• Ability to set up, operate, and troubleshoot welding equipment such as TIG, MIG, flux core, and related systems.
• Experience with welding techniques including TIG welding, MIG welding, flux core welding, and basic fitting and fabrication.
• Capability to maintain accurate equipment logs and assist with site inventory management of materials and consumables.
• Strong understanding of safe equipment handling, including securing loads and identifying defective or missing equipment.
• Commitment to following safety regulations and safe work practices, including familiarity with OSHA 30-level safety expectations.
• Ability to work effectively under the direction of shop staff and field project managers in both shop and field environments.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to cooperate effectively with coworkers and customers.
• Willingness and ability to travel 25-50% of the time to project sites across the United States.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience supporting weld overlay projects in an industrial or construction environment.
• Exposure to robotics in welding or automated welding systems.
• Experience with NDE methods such as visual testing (VT), penetrant testing (PT), and ultrasonic thickness (UT) measurements, with applicable training and certifications.
• Experience assisting with training or mentoring new technicians or weld operators.
• Experience in fabrication and R&D activities related to welding and metalworking.
• Familiarity with quality control practices in welding, including adherence to defined procedures and standards.
• OSHA 30 safety training or equivalent safety-focused education or certification.
• Comfort working in both shop and field settings, including industrial job sites and warehouse environments.

Work Environment

The position is based at a corporate office in Lenexa, with an expected travel requirement of approximately 25-50% to project sites throughout the United States. Work takes place in both shop and field environments, including industrial facilities and warehouse settings. You will work around welding, gouging, blasting, and related equipment, as well as weld overlay machines and potentially robotic or automated systems. The environment emphasizes safety, good housekeeping, and organized staging of equipment and materials. Hours may vary depending on project needs, particularly during field assignments, and you will collaborate closely with shop staff, field project managers, union craft boilermakers, and other technical personnel in a hands-on, equipment-focused setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Lenexa, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $52,000.00 - $62,400.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
