Starting wages effective July 1, 2023 through and including June 30, 2024: Starting at $70,529.11 annually The City of Urbana, Illinois is now offering the following incentives for lateral transfer Police Officers who begin employment between February 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024 who have completed appropriate training and certification. Placement at a step on the payscale based on prior experience as a police officer! Match leave accruals! A bonus of $10,000 on your first paycheck! If so, the Urbana Police Department may be the place for you! The City of Urbana invites qualified applicants for the position of Experienced Police Officer. Position Summary/Benefit Information For more information, please refer to the job description and the Recruiting E-book above. Minimum qualifications include:

• At least two years of experience as a full-time sworn street patrol officer. Non-patrol sworn officer experience, such as jail/corrections, dispatch, or private security work does not count as "street patrol experience" in calculating the total months of post-academy experience.
• Currently employed as a sworn police officer (or recently released or facing release, due to layoff or reduction in force, with the ability to be re-hired).
• No maximum age limit if previously employed by a municipality; or if you have served as a sworn officer of the Illinois Department of State Police; or if you have served as a deputy under Section 3-6008 of the Counties Code and otherwise meets necessary training requirements. Otherwise, you must be at least 21 years of age and no more than 34 years of age (by closing date of job posting) unless you have prior military experience. Applicants may exceed the age of 35 years by the number of years served on active military duty, but by no more than 10 years of active military duty.
• Must meet a residency requirement of residing within a fifteen-mile radius of the City of Urbana within the 6-month probation period.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to help and serve others.
• Physically fit and ability to pass a medical and a physical agility exam.
• Able to pass required psychological and physical exams and background check.
• Certification by the State of Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board or its designated equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Currently employed as a full-time sworn police officer.
• Successful completion of an accredited full-time police academy.
• Knowledge typically acquired through completion of an associate's degree or equivalent college classes and credits or two (2) years active duty in the military with an honorable discharge.
