Tentative Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-3:30 pm Title of Job: Nuclear Medicine Technologist Status/FLSA Status: Full-time, non-exempt Reports to: Radiology Director Location: Radiology Department Date: August 4, 2026 Primary Function: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis, care, and treatment of patients. This role involves preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals, operating imaging equipment, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining regulatory compliance. Responsibilities:
- Prepare, calculate, and administer appropriate doses of radiopharmaceuticals for patient procedures.
- Operate gamma cameras, PET/CT, SPECT/CT, and other nuclear medicine imaging equipment.
- Position patients correctly and monitor them throughout procedures to ensure safety and comfort.
- Acquire high-quality diagnostic images while minimizing patient radiation exposure.
- Review and process images for physician interpretation.
- Maintain accurate patient records, documentation, and radiation safety logs.
- Adhere to ALARA principles (As Low as Reasonably Achievable) to ensure radiation protection for patients, staff, and self.
- Conduct quality control tests on equipment to ensure accuracy and functionality.
- Provide patient education regarding procedures, potential side effects, and aftercare instructions.
- Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.
- Comply with state, federal, and institutional regulations governing nuclear medicine practices.
- Foster a professional, respectful, and confidential environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Promote open communication, trust, and collaboration within the department.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.
- Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology (or related field).
- Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-NM).
- State licensure (if required).
- Current BLS/CPR certification.
- Strong knowledge of radiation safety principles, imaging equipment, and radiopharmaceutical handling.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient positioning.
- Regular exposure to low levels of ionizing radiation, with protective measures in place.
- Manual dexterity is sufficient to operate the equipment and the computer system.
- Flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts, depending on department needs.
- Fast-paced clinical environment with direct patient contact.
- May be required to help in the main office with clerical duties when not with patients.
