This is a ten-week internship (40 hours per week) during the summer of 2027 located within one of Amazon's fulfillment centers, sort centers, delivery stations or other operations buildings.Operations is at the heart of Amazon's business. Come join us on our journey!As an Automation Engineer Intern, you will play a crucial role in maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance in our fulfillment centers by providing proactive controls automation and technical support. Your expertise will be essential in troubleshooting complex control systems, analyzing performance metrics, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize material handling equipment (MHE) systems and implement innovative projects. You'll work with state-of-the-art technology, including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, label systems, and SCADA devices and programs. Summer relocation and housing assistance provided if eligible.Based on your performance during the internship, you will have the opportunity to receive an offer for full-time employment upon graduation.Key job responsibilities:Learn to maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systemsMonitor MHE metrics and partner with maintenance/operations to address system performance issues and provide analysis across all operationsDrive standard work and continuous improvement through an intern projectStand/walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, including climbing and descending stairs, and lifting up to 49 poundsWork shift patterns that may include nights, weekends, and/or holidays based on business needs. While shifts vary site to site, most follow a fixed 4-day work week with 3 days off
