Construction Laborer – Underground Utilities / Jack-and-Bore Construction Crew Member

Location: Various Project Locations Throughout WV, MD, PA, VA and Surrounding States

Position Summary

Snyder Environmental Services LLC is seeking motivated, dependable, and safety-driven individuals to join our Underground Utilities and Jack-and-Bore Construction Crew. This position assists with underground utility installation projects involving auger boring, casing pipe installation, trenchless construction, water and sewer utility installation, excavation, and related utility work.

Employees work as part of a team to safely install underground utilities while maintaining compliance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety requirements. Candidates must be willing to work in a fast-paced outdoor construction environment while maintaining a strong commitment to workplace safety and safe construction practices.

Project locations may vary throughout West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and surrounding states. Travel and overnight stays may be required.

Qualifications

• Strong safety mindset with the ability to follow OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety requirements.
• Must consistently wear and maintain required PPE and participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, Take 5 meetings, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
• Ability to identify hazards and report unsafe conditions immediately.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more unassisted.
• Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, climb, twist, crawl, and work continuously throughout the day.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Basic knowledge of construction equipment, underground utilities, and hand tools.
• Ability to read a tape measure and follow directions accurately.
• Must report to assigned job sites on time and prepared to work.
• Valid driver's license required (MVR subject to review for company insurance purposes).
• CDL preferred but not required.
• Must be willing to travel and stay overnight when required.
• Pre-employment background screening and drug testing required.
• One or more years of construction, underground utility, trenching, pipe installation, excavation, or related experience preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with jack-and-bore operations and trenchless utility installations.
• Assist with underground water, sewer, storm, and utility construction projects.
• Load, unload, transport, and organize materials, tools, and equipment.
• Assist with job site setup, maintenance, and cleanup.
• Install casing pipe, carrier pipe, sewer pipe, water mains, service laterals, and related utility components.
• Assist with excavation, trenching, grading, shoring, and site preparation activities.
• Operate hand tools, air tools, jackhammers, rock drills, compactors, and other construction equipment.
• Assist crew members with measurements, material handling, and equipment operation.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report deficiencies.
• Maintain safe work zones and assist with traffic control operations when required.
• Follow utility locating procedures and maintain awareness of underground and overhead hazards.
• Assist with necessary work inside steel casing pipe and other enclosed spaces when required.
• Complete assigned labor tasks safely and efficiently.
• Perform other duties assigned by supervisors or project management.

Safety Responsibilities

• Follow all OSHA regulations, traffic control requirements, company safety policies, and customer safety requirements.
• Participate in toolbox talks, safety training, and Job Hazard Analyses.
• Wear required PPE at all times.
• Exercise Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions exist.
• Immediately report all injuries, incidents, near misses, property damage, and unsafe conditions.
• Recognize and avoid pinch-point, line-of-fire, struck-by, caught-between, and excavation hazards.
• Notify crew members and receive positive acknowledgment before entering any pinch-point area, pipe zone, excavation, or hazardous work area.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials and equipment.
• Ability to climb, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in confined or enclosed spaces when required.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to work around heavy equipment, active construction sites, confined spaces, and underground utility operations.

Compensation & Benefits

• Starting pay: $20.00 per hour , paid weekly.
• Some projects may qualify for prevailing wage rates.
• Typical schedule is Monday through Friday.
• Overtime is common and may be required.
• Ability to work both local and out-of-town projects required.
• Company-paid lodging provided for overnight travel projects.
